Economic meltdown, financial crashes, broken homes and relationships, bad companies which corrupts good manners, etc all these and more are the situations each and every one of us find ourselves in at every point in time. It makes me wonder can we really get out of these messy situations without losing our faith? Then again I realize that life isn’t about what happens to you to how you respond to it.
One of the Newton’s laws of motion states: all objects remain in a state of rest until a force is applied. This law applies to all the phases of life if you don’t for instance get your car to the state of ignition it will not move or if you don’t kick a ball it will not fly so up high. Starting with what you have simply means creating what you want from what you have with you and would not cost you so much to get, if you discover on time that you have that particular thing to get what you want. Every great dream start small and a journey of a thousand miles now could begin with a step not necessarily in a day, so dream big cause the biggest dream you have might end up happening for real.
Henry Ford loved to design engines and one day he caught the idea of designing a petrol engine. After working for several months in a workshop at the back of his house, he produced his first petrol engine. Eventually, he began to build cars. The first set of cars were expensive and were built exclusively on demand. But ford had a longing in his heart to mass produce cars, his business partners did not quite agree with him especially since they were making some good money already. Ford resigned and started another company, even the business partners were alarmed when ford announced he was increasing production to one thousand cars per day. Then he increased to four thousand cars per day. Ford started with a petrol engine and realized that he could build cars, today out of every four cars that drives by you, one will definitely be a ford car, start with what you have.
The things you need are with and around you and they are not far fetched. Just like you don’t share your finger prints with anyone so also you have a God-given potential within you that any other person doesn’t have. Believe me when I say this that your existence in not by mistake so also is your God-given potentials which has the capacity to heal and affect people around you. Now I hope have been able to stir up our spirit so that thing on your mind should be ‘how do I know what to start with and how do I start? Quite easy let’s take our bible case study from the book of 2kings 4:1-7. The passage in summary is about a widow ran to the prophet for help cause her husband left liabilities and she was about to lose her two sons to her husband’s debtor. The prophet, Prophet Elisha asked what he could for her and then what she had in her house. She replied that she had nothing and quickly remembered she had a jar of oil. Elisha asked her to go borrow vessels from everywhere, all the neighbor’s empty vessels and specifically told her not to borrow a few, after which she should shut her door and poured from the small jars to the big ones sounds stupid right? but she did as she was told. She was able to pay off her husband’s debt and also live on the remaining with her two sons. Your potential is just like that jar of oil, which when utilized will make you pour from it rather than the other way around. How you ask how can I pour my small jar of oil into much bigger jars and have more than enough? It’s simply where some steps
1. The word: just like the widow ran to the prophet and she got the word, so also you need to connect to the right source at every point of your life. In your case it might not be a prophet it could be words from audio tapes, videos, books, music, friends and even enemies, or it could also be a prophet. You need the word to stir you up.
2. Potentials: what is in your hands was the question the prophet asked the widow. The things that you already have inside of you that thing that you love doing without complaining and stress, it could be cooking, writing, teaching, playing musical instruments, talking yeah talking you only need to make it constructive. whatever it is such for you to just discover it and go for it.
3. Jar of oil: the widow replied ‘your maidservant has nothing in the house but a jar of oil; now that you have discovered what you love doing then the question is how do I go about it? It’s easy just like ABC, A-ACQUIRE THE KNOWLEDGE THAT YOU NEED TO DEVELOP YOUR POTENTIAL, YOU COULD GO TO A SCHOOL, FASHION SCHOOL OR WHATEVER, JUST ACQUIRE THE REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, B- BRING OUT THE BEST OUT OF YOUR POTENTIALS WITH THE ACQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, AND C- COMMERCIAL VALUE. GIVE YOUR POTENTIAL A NICE PACKAGING; GIVE THE WORLD THE REASON TO BELIEVE THAT THEY NEED YOUR POTENTIAL.REMEMBER PEOPLE SEE A PRODUCT BEFORE THEY GET TO USE OR TASTE OR KNOW IT.
4. Protect your potential: afterward the prophet told the woman to shut her doors before she pours the oil, let’s get this straight there are vision killers and dream snatchers or even worse dream scatters who will want to give you testimonies of people who had dreams in the last few decades ago and could not achieve them, you need not to be around these set of people. You need those who will encourage you and also give you the bittersweet speech of how you can make it after hard work as usual. If you can’t have people like this around you no worries, you can get biographies, auto biographies, audio tapes, books of people who actually made it to the top. A typical example is getting the book ‘audacity of hope’ by Barrack Obama (president). Whatever you do please protect your dreams.
Now make that move remember that the wool for clothes was on the back of a sheep until man discovered it, the power to generate electricity was in our rivers, our furniture was in trees, our stationery were in trees, our rayon shirts were inside crude oil and our cars and aircraft were in the soil. All these things you see around today existed before only in potential form. We did not enjoy until we recognized them and created them. Your God-given potential is like this so FIND IT DEVELOP IT AND GIVE IT COMMERCIAL VALUE.
